About The Gold Standard

According to the EPA, a typical passenger vehicle emits about 4.6 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year. This assumes the average gasoline vehicle on the road today has a fuel economy of about 22.0 miles per gallon and drives around 11,500 miles per year. Every gallon of gasoline burned creates about 8,887 grams of CO².

One ton of CO² has a volume of 500 cubic meters at standard temperature and pressure.

It would take the average driver less than 12,000 miles to fill an Olympic sized swimming pool with GHG emissions.

The average car, driven 12,000 miles, will produce enough GHG emissions in one year to fill a 3,000 sq. ft house 3.3 times!

In the worldwide market, a carbon credit must be purchased to allow a company to produce and release one ton of carbon into the atmosphere.

By purchasing this carbon offset, Climate Clean will retire 1 ton of carbon on your behalf. This means it is no longer valid for trading on the world’s carbon market and cannot be used to generate more greenhouse gas.

The Gold Standard, or Gold Standard for the Global Goals, is a standard and logo certification mark program for non-governmental emission reductions projects in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), the Voluntary Carbon Market and other climate and development interventions. It is published and administered by the Gold Standard Foundation, a non-profit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. It was designed with an intent to ensure that carbon credits are real and verifiable and that projects make measurable contributions to sustainable development. Its objective is to add branding, with a quality label, to Carbon Credits generated by projects which can then be bought and traded by countries that have a binding legal commitment according to the Kyoto Protocol, businesses or other organizations for carbon offsetting purposes.

GOLD STANDARD OFFSETS are real, surplus, verifiable and permanent — "RSVP." The offsets must meet the following criteria:

• REAL. the projects is built;

• SURPLUS. The projects would not have taken place without revenue from offset sales (also referred to as having additionality ).

• VERIFIED, the projects have undergone a stringent design review, monitoring, measurement, and verification, so the projects are transparent about using the investment.

• PERMANENT, the offsets are irreversible, plus the local and global benefits from the projects are socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable.
